Lower Antelope Canyon

The weather forecast for today predicted another snow storm, luckily it would not hit the Glen Canyon Recreation Area so we were visiting the Lower Antelope Canyon! The Upper is supposed to be way prettier in the sunlight and the Lower more adventurous. But it was going to be clouded today, so we chose the Lower.

The entrance of the canyon is well hidden: it’s a small opening in the ground and when we first saw it, we thought our guide was making a joke! You have to take a lot of stairs to get into the canyon and it always goes deeper and deeper into the ground. It was really nice. Too bad we didn’t have any sun though. Yet still without it, the shape of the walls and the patterns were amazing. But altogether, it really wasn’t that adventurous at all. God knows why we needed a guide…

Afterwards we drove to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon to get a backcountry permit, which is required if you want to stay overnight in any of the parks. The number of permits is limited, so it is important to apply for them in time. We were a bit late, but we were lucky. Our first choice would have been Tuesday and Wednesday (the first upcoming good-weather days), but all those permits were given out already. Lucky for us, there was still a permit open for Wednesday on Thursday (and the weather would even be better than), so we got one!

This did mean we would have two days of doing nothing, planning our trip, doing laundry, working on this blog so it would finally be up-to-date, and more of doing nothing.
