Route 66

Las Vegas is quite expensive if you want to book a last minute room on a Friday night (over $200 instead of $30) so we decided not to go to Vegas today but visit Sequoia National Park and Death Valley first, and Vegas on the way South.

So today we didn’t do much but drive. We passed part of the famous Route 66, but we can tell you, this was not the ‘famous’ part. Most of it was quite boring actually. We were doubting if we would continue on the 66 or just switch to the interstate. Good thing we decided to keep going, because that last part made up for the rest! It was a mountainous area – hardly any signs of Route 66 – but great nature views with a lot of different types of cactuses. Unlike in Europe, in the US you only see license plates from the USA – which is quite logical. However, today we saw a van with a German license plate and a sign explaining they were on a world tour. Pretty cool.
