From St. Regis we went on our way to Glacier National Park. We again saw beautiful scenery along the road. Montana's also pretty. Our plan was to drive all the way to the East side of the park and take the Going-to-the-Sun road at sunset. The last town before the park entrance was our first sign of how much we are not traveling in tourist season right now. It was so incredibly desolated! Luckily there was an – expensive – gas station where we could pay with credit card (no shop open).
Once we got to the entrance of the park and we read a sign saying the mountain pass was closed for winter, we remembered having seen a sign saying the road was open for 17 miles going from the West. We should have payed attention to that, as well as we should have checked beforehand if the road was open or not. There is a blue sign on our road map that is placed next to some roads saying 'closed in winter'. This sign was also next to this road. Whoops again. The road was still open for 13 miles though, and since we came all this way, we took this small route anyway and it was beautiful.
As we had planned to spend that night on the West side of the park and we couldn't drive trough, we had to go back all the way around, but we made it in time.
