Yellowstone – Part I

The day started good: early, cold (-10°C) and we saw our first elk! Further on we also saw a coyote (might also have been a wolf, but probably not). Today we were driving the North Rim of Yellowstone, including the Gibson Falls, the Artists' Paintpots (a small thermal area, but a nice warm-up to what would come next) and Norris Geyser Basin (with the magical Porcelain Basin). Here we were quite enthusiastic, because we saw a geyser erupt! However someone explained to us that what we saw was only a small (more frequent) eruption and only one tenth of what we could see – little sad face. The positive side was that he thought we were from Canada! Not to bad, eh!

Further on the list were another coyote, our first two bisons, more bisons, another pair of bisons, Mammoth Hot Springs, some cute chipmunks, a herd of elks chilling under some trees in the town, some more bisons, Sulphur Caldron (all thermal areas smelled, but these you could still smell a mile away), Mud Volcano and a couple of large herds of bisons.
